Update Vomit Coming Your Way

…by writing “I’m back” I recognize that this might jinx everything but what the hell. I’M BACK.:)

OH HAI. I wasn’t able to update properly for at least a month or so, save for the occasional vague quote posts that is a thin disguise for er, keeping my blog updated. Haha. Anyway I do miss blogging so here I am, taking advantage of the long weekend to word vomit stuff that I actually like.

Some of the stuff that’s been happening:

1) We’ve finally moved! This is the main reason I’ve been quiet for a month as my sister and I were managing The Move from our filthy (swear, swear, no one believes me when I say this is an understatement) hovel to our little pad one city away.

I call it The Move because we’re so terribly excited about it! It’s the first time my sister and I will have a place to ourselves (which means it’s now firmly an anti-smoking zone, no waiting in bathrooms, no improper dress code–wait). Sure it drained my bank account faster than you can say “downpayment!” but we had to make the leap someday.

And anyway it was soooo fun to pick out our own stuff. We have a funny rule about decorating our new place: NO PLASTIC FURNITURE ALLOWED. (Trivia: my sister’s eyes burn at the sight of an Orocan dresser). So she was in charge of picking out plates, glasses, mugs and all those cute (but PRACTICAL) stuff in SM Homeworld (it’s our new Forever 21). The curtains! The bedspreads! It’s all our decision… down to the cute smiley cooking utensils and cat placemats.

As for me, I don’t know if anyone will understand that…. satisfaction having bought your own bed. I mean, for the longest time my parents provided one for me, and when I was in college all the beds weren’t really my beds since they were rented. But this… well, I finally have my own. Sounds strange, but I love that fact.

Sorry I have no photos in hand right now but it’s just a very simple place and we’re still trying to pretty it up using Tumblr and We Heart It as inspiration. See next photos for (ambisyosang) pegs*:

Hah I know, I know. Still, it doesn’t hurt to dream right? :) ) Right now, the predominant scheme in our place is pastel + wood + black appliances = as fickle-minded as the owners :p

Well, right now we have everything we need to survive. We want to take decorating sloooow (read: let paydays fill our bank accounts first). The only thing missing for me are bookshelves because all my books are on the floor, poor babies. And a pretty lampshade (which is to be semi-splurged on, but we haven’t found The One yet).

All in all, it was sooo tiring to move even though we’ve been doing this ever since I was 16 and a college freshman. Why, this year alone I moved three times to three different cities!

But the ending was total and lasting relief. I hope that this time we finally found our place. :)

We need a full-length mirror. Anyone wants to give us a housewarming gift? :) )

2) Last week was my first year anniversary as a working kid. Wow, I can’t believe it’s been a year since I was such a newbie at this. Well, the feeling never really completely goes away but as time goes by you learn to just suck it up and hopefully your work passes as not-written-by-a-newbie. I remember as I was approaching August I was supposed to write some sort of a blog entry dedicated to what I’ve learned in the past year… hmm maybe it’s not too late?

I had the chance to talk to some OrCom seniors (they visited the office for a class requirement!) a few days before my actual anniversary so it really is full circle and… surreal. Just a little more than 12 months ago I was one of them, a senior, with a one-track mind to just finish my thesis and move on. And now there is a thick, screaming red line between me and them.

Oh, not because I’ve gone on to the “real world” or gone mature or whatever-else adults call it… it’s just different when you’ve firmly crossed from passing grades to meeting work expectations. It’s a foreign burden to bear. When I saw them all I can think of how is how new they are, how fresh–though I doubt that they feel that way given they’re in the middle of thesis and senior year. :) )

Now I think I understand how quick the soul can get weary. Yes, there is recovery time and it’s not all stress and problems… just not the same with the carefree nature of college.

I already sound melancholy (but I’m not!). Must be the weather.

Oh and we won a Boomerang Award for the Maybelline Be Gerald’s Girl campaign we did a couple of months back! So proud to be part of the team. And I feel really lucky and blessed to be working with talented and patient people whom I really learn from everyday. I guess there’s no better way than to mark my one year than with such an unexpected blessing. :)

It's um.. our team obsessed with Asphalt 6.

3) I know in my heart that I need to write about the new (ugh not anymore) movies (HELLO Harry Potter movie whatever happened to the uber dramatic review I was supposed to churn out), books and the general fandom I’ve gotten in to but I think it deserves another post because I swear I wouldn’t go beyond a thousand words and I’m already firmly in the 800 mark (and counting…) Just lemme fangirl on this one:

Dearest reader, let me steer you into some quality, disappointment-free** fandom.

I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH: If you haven’t watched or read Game of Thrones, drop whatever you’re doing right now. Watch the series first if you’re unsure how to tackle the 800-page novel, since HBO did not disappoint with their adaptation. As for me, I had no choice but to read the book first because I’ve had it ever since last April in Boracay, where I luckily bought it at P100.

You all might have been hearing that it sorta’s kinda like Lord Of The Rings. Yes they’re both medieval-ish and high fantasy but it’s NOT the same. Will try to talk about this more in the next couple of posts… or just visit my Tumblr every now and then. :) )

I know the hole that Harry Potter left in my heart will never be filled, but there is unlimited space for one more. The books of A Song Of Ice and Fire seems to be it. :)

After three books, I am still undecided if I want to worship or murder George R.R. Martin. A little bit of both, I think.

Okay I passed the 1000 word-mark. Time to shut up now. Hope the next update won’t take too long :p

**I did not say heartbreak-free, mind.

  2. Hello, new semi-neighbor! :)
I swore I would not read Game of Thrones until I have finished reading the books I bought last June because I have been told that I will never go back to them once I start. Ugh. I need to read faster. Why did I even buy so many books last June?! :|
